Ended up watching this whole Buffett Q&A. If you watch other Buffett talks he does tend to repeat himself. This one is good.
Interesting to me how much Buffett talks about two companies, See’s and Coca-Cola, that have an emotional connection to the consumer. The results of that might be in the balance sheet, but the reason is beyond numbers. A genius of Buffett to combine cold technical investment analysis with being, like, the ultimate late 20th century American consumer.
As for Coke, the only new drink I know of that people drink five or six of a day is:
Good for Warren, but Andy Warhol got the emotional and philosoppical appeal of Coke and popular culture in general back in the 60’s:
“A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking…Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.”
Often overlooked in people’s response to Andy Warhol is the sincerity, respect and humanity mixed in with the ironic detachment and condescension.
Great point. Have been meaning to do a post about Warhol’s book FAME. Some surprisingly (to me) traditional/conservative observations in there
